Today is American civil rights leader, Malcolm X, birthday.

Below is a video narrated by James Earl Jones, this 1972 documentary about Malcolm X was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary. It is based on The Autobiography of Malcolm X, written by Alex Haley between 1964 and 1965, as told to him through conversations with Malcolm conducted shortly before his death. Made with the help of Malcolm’s wife Betty Shabazz, this documentary recounts the life and ideas of this controversial leader. In addition to clips of Malcolm X in public interviews and speeches, numerous important civil rights figures are featured, as well as important public officials from the period.

The Lions Circle - Toronto

The Lions Circle is a brotherhood of men, connected through Afrikan ancestry.  We are committed to supporting each other to pursue, discover, and fulfill our greatest potential. In doing so, we make a difference in the world, for ourselves, our families, our communities and beyond. The Lions Circle turned six years old this past March.

In this interview, we speak and share with the president of The Lions Circle, Bentley Kwaku Springer. Kwaku was born and lives in Toronto. In the past, he was part of a group that ran a successful community organization, Black Habits, for about ten years which provided him an understanding on how the Black community works and how can it work better together. Kwaku has been the president of the Lions Circle for three years.

During this interview, Kwaku talks and shares about a number of subjects including how The Lions Circle started, how he became involved with the Lions Circle, the mission of the organization, what holds Black men back and why, some of the biggest challenges that Black men face, Black men and employment and the organization’s upcoming event, “Lead The Way”, The Lions Circle commitment to Black men and the importance of legacy for Black men.

On June 11, 2011 from 2:30 p.m. To 6:00 p.m., The Lions Circle is presenting, “Lead The Way: Our Time Is Now” featuring guest speakers Dalton Higgins and Warren Salmon (First Fridays and Blackboard International).
