The Dr. Vibe Show™: Sheree Williams – Cuisine Noir Magazine

0

V. Sheree Williams

Sheree Williams publisher of Cuisine Noir magazine. She was born in Chicago and has a degree in advertising and a love for writing since she was very young.

From food and wine to travel, Cuisine Noir magazine delivers what readers are looking for which is more than where to find the next great meal.  And most importantly, it is a culinary publication that compliments readers’ lifestyles and desire for a diverse epicurean experience.

Cuisine Noir made its debut online in October of 2007 with a successful run through December 2008 as the first magazine to feature the talents of African-American culinary and wine professionals across the country.  As the vision of Chef Richard Pannell, the magazine is tapping into an underserved market of African-American foodies and wine enthusiasts as well as acting as a unique vehicle to showcase the talents of industry professionals.

In September 2009, the magazine re-emerged online under V. Sheree Publishing and has since captured readers once again from all over the country.  Each month, readers are treated to stories about industry experts and professionals to vineyards and world class destinations around the world. Celebrity chefs featured include The Neelys, Tre Wilcox, Nikki Shaw, Aaron McCargo, Jr., Sunny Anderson and Andrew Zimmern.  In addition, the magazine is also the first to showcase the “foodie” side of other celebrities such as Mo’Nique, Wendy Williams, Chris Bridges (aka Ludacris), Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dhani Jones, Terence Blanchard, Bootsy Collins and Gerald Albright.

Cuisine Noir is also seen as a diversity agent to help increase the visibility of African-Americans in the culinary industry among mainstream media, organizations and corporations.  Through its partners such as the Food Network, Travel Channel, reality show casting agencies and the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade, it has been able to help open doors for professionals across the country.

As the premier online magazine for reaching and catering to influential and affluent African-Americans, Cuisine Noir is the perfect fit for foodies who are looking for the ultimate culinary experience that truly compliments their lifestyle and enjoyment of both the simple and finer things in life.

During our interview, Sharee talks and shares about the story behind Cuisine Noir, her first meeting with legendary chef Richard Pannell, her game changing moment, what makes the magazine successful, state of Black chef environment and how it is changing, the first time that The Food Network contacted her, some of the people who she has interviewed and the future of the magazine.

The Dr. Vibe Show: SCI YOUNG – PAVING HIS OWN PATH IN MUSIC

1

Ever since the age of 14, rapping has been the tool and the passion for Jerome “Sci-Young” Charity. Born in the Toronto neighbourhood of Rexdale, Ontario to parents Stanley Charity and Michelle Thomas, he grew up in Brampton, Ontario, with his mother, step-father and younger sister and brother. Sci was first given the name Science due to the fact that he wore glasses and used a lot of scientific terminology in his raps.

Sci Young began making a name for himself as a local emcee at the age of 16, battle rapping at his high school and engaging in basement cipher’s. Music is something that comes very easily for this young rapper but the business is always something he’s had to learn and understand.

As a former student of the Harris Institute and intern at Koch Entertainment Canada Sci Young has developed the knowledge to succeed within the music industry, while enrolled at Harris he learned the ins and outs of management and how to assist other artist’s in development, as part of a school project he formed the management company CIP with two other students. As for Koch this was the hands on experience that allowed Sci to learn what kinds of marketing and promotion labels use to sell records.

During our interview, Sci talks and shares about growing up in a challenging neighbourhood and how he overcame it, growing up with parents who were not married, his first musical performance, going to school to learn the business of music and what he learned from that experience and how he has focused on the internet at a young age to make his mark in the music industry. He also talks about how the internet changed the music industry, how his music style has changed, the current state of rap music, why he gives out product for free, details of his current mixtape and details of his next release, “Dead Prime Ministers”, some of his favorite artists including The Beatles and country music, what rap music needs to get better and his message to young Black men.
