Gary Pieters is a graduate if the University of Toronto.

Gary Pieters has over 17 years of work experience in the education sector and is currently an elementary school vice-principal within the Toronto District School Board.

Gary Pieters has been involved on several boards and advisory committees including the Urban Alliance on Race Relations, Sojourn House and the Toronto Star Community Editorial Board. He is a member of DiverseCity Voices, an initiative of the Maytree Foundation which aims to improve the diversity of voices in the media.

Gary Pieters continues to make guest appearances as a subject matter expert in the print, broadcast, and online media, and has written numerous Opinion/Editorial Page Columns for various media including The Toronto Star Newspaper and THIS Magazine.
