Mobafa Baker Program Director for the Youth Justice Education Program (YJEP) for the African Canadian Legal Clinic.

During our conversation, Mobafa talks about:

– About and why the African Canadian Legal Clinic started YJEP
– Some of the challenges that young African Canadian men face after coming out of prison
– Some of the challenge that young Black men face in general and his thoughts on some of the solutions
– The story behind The Imani Awards that the African Canadian Legal Clinic is presenting February 24, 2013 (today)
– Some YJEP success stories
– How different groups can help Black men

The African Canadian Legal Clinic and the Youth Justice Education Program will host the inaugural Imani Awards at 2pm on February 24, 2013.

The Imani Awards are a celebration of African heritage through recognizing the accomplishments of African Canadian youth in the GTA that have overcome adversity in the area of education, mental health, criminal justice and child welfare.

The awards show was developed by a group of eight young inner city African Canadian men that are involved in the ACLC’s Youth Justice Education Program.

All proceeds from this event will be used in funding a trip to Africa for the group. The journey to the motherland will connect these youth to their African Heritage, as well as provide them with an opportunity to assist in community development projects while overseas.

The Youth Justice Education Program (YJEP) is a paid work program and for some of the participants, this is their first time ever having a real job.

The Dr. Vibe Show™: Live Tonight At 9 P.M. Eastern/6 P.M. – Dr. Vibe Presents “Dr. Vibe’s Real Talk With Real Women” – Tonight’s Topic “Relationships Between Black Women”

0

We are happy to announce a new feature on our show!

“Dr. Vibe’s Real Talk With Real Women” premieres tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern/6 p.m. Pacific.

What is “Dr. Vibe’s Real Talk With Real Women” is about real women talking about real issues that are important not only to women but to all of us.

“Dr. Vibe’s Real Talk With Real Women” will have three regular hosts who are friends and supporters of “The Dr. Vibe Show”.

They are:

Kenya Williams
Kenya Williams

Kenya G. Williams is an inspirational dynamo. After surviving the devastating effects of molestation, Kenya is determined that no other women have to carry that pain. This ideal was the motivation for and foundation of The Kenya Sutra (TKS)®. Her role as Sensuality Consultant is evidence of embracing one’s destiny. Kenya obtained certification as a Self-Care Coach (CSC) from Warm Spirit. This training supports her lifestyle of loving self first and plays an integral role in her work.

A sought-after guest for international broadcast media outlets, Kenya is often asked to provide her insights into woman’s issues, relationship dilemmas, and sexual health topics. Her brand of warmth, humor and no nonsense “Kenya-isms” have proven her to be an entertaining and educational guest. Media credits include: Beautifully Said Magazine, FHD Magazine, The ProBBFM Radio Show, The Dr. Vibe ‘s Allies Show and RMG Morning Mix for which she is the co-host.

Raegan Mathis

Rae(gan) Mathis is a DC-based writer and blogger, originally from Detroit, Michigan by way of Birmingham, Alabama, and writes the inspirational lifestyle blog From Rae With Love. She has been a waitress, a bartender, a corporate trainer, worked in retail, worked in medical labs and worked in legal departments – not many jobs left unturned.

Above all she is a lover of God, a daughter, a friend, a God-mother, an amateur chef, a wine enthusiast and a writer. With equal doses of wit, love, truth and soul she writes about her life experiences in hopes to leave the world around her a better place than she found it. An imperfect but strong supporter of love and service, she encourages people to be nice, mind their manners and do right by other people.

Along the road of life she’s found a love for God, an uncanny ability to never meet a stranger, the foresight to see the writing on the wall and learned the art of the story.

She is a woman who believes everything can be fixed with prayer, a lot of love, the right words, a fabulous home cooked meal, a glass of wine and a renewing piece of literature. This process should be on repeat as needed.

and …

Brandy Williams is an accomplished educator who writes for the Huffington Post, Associated Content, and a host of magazines. As a scholar, Brandy focuses her time on issues in Black America and Education. Her drive towards success comes from her husband and son.

The Dr. Vibe Show: Live Tonight At 8 P.M. Eastern/5 P.M. Pacific – Elle Seon “Elleoquent Publishing”

Elle Seon
Elle Seon

Born to humble beginnings in the beautiful twin islands of Trinidad and Tobago, Elle Seon migrated to the mosaic that is Toronto at a young age. Battling the many social and climactic changes that are associated with moving to another country would prove be the very least of her problems.

The third of four children, Elle realized very early on that she was not being fed by the almighty golden spoon. She would need to work for everything she desired and she wanted everything to be perfect; the obsession with perfection is what would ultimately lead her on a terrifying path. She is a survivor of domestic abuse and also a survivor of sexual assault. Elle was also faced with nearly losing her life in a car accident. That accident would be the greatest blessing as it would prove to be her reality reality check and way out of an abusive relationship.

This sparked a passion in her to help other women who may be going through similar issues. In January 2009, she launched The Power of One – a campaign aimed at inspiring people young and old alike to
achieve their dreams. She intends to arouse the desire to attain overall health in the mind, body and soul of those she helps.

Also a poet and published author of two books entitled Elleoquently Yours Volume I: Life & Love, and also A Path for Lilly. She has plans to release two more novels in 2012.

Elle has a seemingly endless amount of roles that she plays and hats that she wears as an author, motivational speaker, publisher and mentor. However, when asked about which of her roles brings her the most joy the answer is almost immediate – motherhood. She is a proud mother to two beautiful little girls, who she praises for
giving her constant inspiration and motivation.

Elle currently resides in the greater toronto area with her family.

Elle Seon will be on our show live tonight at 8 p.m. Eastern/5 p.m. Pacific.
