“Sharing Our Secrets” Panelists: Amanda Parris (Host), Brandon Hay, Rich Kidd and RT!

The faces of black males are most often attached to negative stories and headlines. While the “who and what” have been covered and discussed many times before, Secrets Of A Black Boy aims to share the “why” behind these headlines and conversations. The complexities of the lives of black male youth in Toronto often go uncovered in mainstream theatre productions and media, leaving many voices silenced and unheard. For the first time, Secrets Of A Black Boy will be hosting a Q&A discussion to follow its matinee show today at 2 p.m. Eastern time titled, “Sharing Our Secrets” – a community forum that will look at how the themes of the play are connected to what’s currently happening in the streets. The conversation is geared to reaching the youth that need to hear this most, by creating a space for them to not only express their anger and frustrations but to also address solutions.

The panelists:

Brandon Hay – Brandon is the Founder of Black Daddies Club. A club founded in 2007 for black men to discuss parenting issues as well as the issues facing the black community as a whole. Brandon was a featured speaker at TEDx Toronto 2011 delivering a talk on “Redefining Fatherhood”.

RT! – RT! quickly became one of Canada’s leading music video and visual directors working with musicians including Kardinal Offishall, Shawn Desman, Danny Fernandez, Belly and Snoop Dogg to name a few. RT! is the most awarded music video director in Canada receiving numerous international and Canadian awards.

Rich Kidd – Toronto’s own Rich Kidd is inspirational artist, world class producer and captivating performer. Best known for chart topping hits such as “Take it Slow”, “SYKE” and “Back In The Day”.

Amanda Parris (host) – Co-founder of the alternative education organization Lost Lyrics and founder of the artistic collective T-Dot Renaissance. Her passion for education, art and social justice has led to innovative and transformative work with organizations such as the Center for Women and Trans People at York U, The Remix Project and Manifesto Community Projects.

“Secrets Of A Black Boy” will be performed live on Saturday, July 27, 2013 (today) at 2 p.m. Eastern time and 8 p.m. Eastern time at the Daniels Spectrum Theatre (585 Dundas Street East) in Toronto.
