Mutendei Akhaya Nabutete is also the owner/ operator of MAKN Productions; Through which as multi-talented writer, author/editor, spoken word artist and public speaker. Mutendei works to promote writing and literature, among other mediums as a means for individual and community development within the greater Toronto area and beyond. As a writer, Mutendei has written a high lev…el throughout his career.
“Nathaniel’s Ode” Mutendei’s first public work, published in SCENE Magazine, won SCENE’s Magazine’s Creative writing award competition in 2003. Mutendei honed his professional writing skills as a Student Journalist for the Fanshawe Interrobang College prior private writing from 2005 to 2010 while working & attending Humber College & York University. From this period of private writing Mutendei has had several endeavours writing and speaking with other members of the GTA community, as listed below:

Little Brother
LITTLE BROTHER is a 10-chapter documentary film series and interactive media project dedicated to giving Black boys a unique voice. Each chapter is available for your educational institution, house of worship or community conversation.
Filmmakers Nicole Franklin and Jasmin Tiggett travel across the United States to take an annual look at black boys as young as nine years old for a one-on-one conversation demystifying what society tends to rob them of: LOVE.
The series outreach, Mapping Our Pledge to Little Brother and upcoming curriculum is supported in part by a grant from the Foundation to Promote Open Society/Campaign for Black Male Achievement, fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas.
Little Brother chapters 1, 2, and 3 are each 15 minutes in length and are designed to spark conversation. The films are distributed via DVD by Third World Newsreel at www.twn.org.

Nicole Franklin is an award-winning filmmaker, television director, stage manager, editor, educator, public speaker and web event host. For fifteen years, her company EPIPHANY Inc. has been producing independent films for numerous cable networks including Showtime, BET, IFC, Nickelodeon, Sundance Channel and The Documentary Channel. Her credits include The Double Dutch Divas!, Journeys In Black: the Jamie Foxx Biography, Kids Around the World, NBC Nightly News, The Today Show, Black Enterprise Business Report, and she is part of the Emmy-Award winning team on CBS Sunday Morning. Her current educational films include Gershwin & Bess: A Dialogue with Anne Brown and the 10-chapter series Little Brother, both titles distributed by Third World Newsreel. Little Brother is a recipient of the Foundation to Promote Open Society/Campaign for Black Male Achievement Award, fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas. Inspired by Gershwin & Bess…, Nicole has a screenplay in development titled BESS. Jasmin Tiggett is an award-winning filmmaker, writer and film curator. Her production credits span narrative and documentary films, television, commercials, and music videos including ‘1960 What,’ an artful documentary on Detroit history and culture featuring Grammy-nominated jazz artist Gregory Porter, Festival de Cannes Short Film Corner selection ‘A Little Bit of More,’ forthcoming PBS documentary ‘Through a Lens Darkly,’ BET’s ‘Harlem Heights,’ The CW’s ‘America’s Next Top Model,’ and ‘The Search for the Next Doll,’ to name a few. She has covered entertainment for print and online, and is a contributing writer for Shadow & Act on Indiewire.She is a graduate of the Florida State University Film School and the Professional Program in Screenwriting at UCLA, and was a 2012 Fellow in the Cosby Screenwriting Program at USC. In addition to her work in production, she also paints and illustrates.
Dr. Raymond A. Winbush – Consultant “Little Brother”
Dr. Raymond A. Winbush is the Director of the Institute for Urban Research at Morgan State University in Baltimore Maryland. He is the former Benjamin Hooks Professor of Social Justice at Fisk University and Director of the University’s Race Relations Institute. He also served as Assistant Provost and Director of the Johnson Black Cultural Center at Vanderbilt University. A native of Cleveland Ohio, Dr. Winbush, is a product of public school education, K through 12.In 1970, he graduated with honors in psychology from Oakwood College in Huntsville Alabama, and during his undergraduate education there, won scholarships to both Harvard and Yale Universities. After graduation he won a fellowship to the University of Chicago and received both his Masters and Ph.D. in psychology in 1973 and 1976 respectively.Dr. Winbush’s research interests include infusing African American studies into school curricula, African American adolescent development, Black male and female relationships and the influence of hip hop on contemporary American culture. He is the author of numerous articles on the “politics” of Afrocentricity and the resistance it encounters among scholars who wish to maintain existing intellectual paradigms. A recent article for the Baltimore Urban League coauthored with his colleague Dr. Tracy Rone at the Institute for Urban Research, cited the hidden dangers of environmental lead poisoning in Baltimore City.
Dr. Winbush is the author of three books, including his latest, Belinda’s Petition: A Concise History of Reparations for the Transtlantic Slave Trade, (Xlibris, 2009) a “prequel” to his book, Should America Pay?: Slavery and the Raging Debate on Reparations which was published by HarperCollins in 2003 and hit Essence Magazine’s bestsellers list shortly after its release. It has been called by Cornel West a “must read” when it comes to understanding the struggle for reparations. His book, The Warrior Method: A Program for Rearing Healthy Black Boys, (Harper Collins, 2001), is a comprehensive African-centered program for rearing healthy Black boys in a racist society.
Dr. Jeff Menzise
Dr. Jeff Menzise is part of Morgan State’s Institute for Urban Research that Dr. Winbush founded. Himself and Dr. Winbush have written wonderful books concerning about the Black experience.

THE CONVERSATION is a concept by Carmen M. Colon and Kenneth L. Foote, hopes to be the template for a reinforceable bridge via freeform discussions between generations of young men and accomplished men of our community.
As it once was, during those days when our men played Chess, Cards or Dominoes and the young squires sat around and absorbed from their elders the ways of the world as it pertained to them, we wish to create a new rite of passage – one for the new Millennium.

Mark Anthony Neal
Mark Anthony Neal is Professor of Black Popular Culture in the Department of African and African-American Studies at Duke University, where he won the 2010 Robert B. Cox Award for Teaching. Neal is a former Fellow at the HipHop Archive and Research Institute at the Hutchins Center for African & African American Research at Harvard University.
Neal is the author of five books, including the recently published Looking for Leroy: Illegible Black Masculinities (New York University Press, 2013), What the Music Said: Black Popular Music and Black Public Culture (1998),
Soul Babies: Black Popular Culture and the Post-Soul Aesthetic (2002), Songs in the Keys of Black Life: A Rhythm and Blues Nation (2003) and New Black Man: Rethinking Black Masculinity (2005). Neal is also the co-editor(with Murray Forman) of That’s the Joint!: The Hip-Hop Studies Reader, 2nd Edition (2004, 2011).
Neal also hosts the weekly video webcast, Left of Black in collaboration with the John Hope Franklin Center at Duke University. Neal is the founder and managing editor of the blog NewBlackMan (in Exile).
Kenneth L. Foote
Kenneth L. Foote, devoted father and Brooklyn Native is a bi-racial former Florida State Prosecuting Attorney who is currently a Pasco County Criminal Defense Attorney. Kenneth attended St Johns University and Majored in International Criminal Law as well as Stetson University in Florida. While he provides a myriad of services to the general public all over the State of Florida, it is his years as a former prosecutor and working within the Justice System that provides us all with the benefit of his vantage point.
Paul Mondesire
Paul Mondesire is the Development Officer at The Twenty-First Century Foundation. “Our mission is to lead, innovate and influence giving for Black community change. As one of the few, endowed, Black foundations in the U.S., Twenty-First Century Foundation (21CF) works to advance the welfare of the Black community through strategic and collective grant making; special initiatives and research; donor education and donor services.
Tywan Anthony
Brooklyn native Tywan Anthony graduated from Pittsburgh State University where he earned his degree in Political Science and was a standout football player.
Anthony, 29, works at Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation in the Financial Empowerment Center where he helps young people, the elderly and the economically disadvantaged population of Bedford-Stuyvesant learn financial literacy by equipping them with the tools that will guide them toward financial freedom.
Anthony also is a member of the local chapter of the NAACP, where he serves as chairman of economic empowerment; he is vice chair of education and youth and economic development for Community Board 3; he is a member of VIDA; and a member of 500 Men Making a Difference. He
is the founder of The BedStuy Crusaders, a semi professional football team operating in the Central Brooklyn area as well as a player.
The first installment of THE CONVERSATION will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 in New York on Saturday, April 26, 2014. The discussion will be available via video late spring – early summer 2014.
