Candace Simpson talks about her most recent writing, How black women have been erased from America’s race debate.

Candace talked about:

– Where the inspiration came from to write the article and the reaction to the article
– Her role in the recent Blackout Black Friday demonstration in Brooklyn
– The challenges that black women encounter when they are trying to help black men
– Her thoughts on why there are so many black women leading demonstration about the state of black men
– The current state of race in America
– Her call to action for black men, black women and for those who are not black

Candace Simpson is a Brooklyn native and a seminary student. She writes for the Black women’s blogging collective, For Harriet. Candace has been an active participant in solidarity actions after the news of recent non-indictments, including co-organizing a Blackout Black Friday demonstration in Brooklyn. Her latest writing focuses on the ways Black women have been made invisible in recent protest coverage and community responses.
