The Dr. Vibe Show™: Jasmyn Fyffe “Pulse” At The 2015 Toronto Next Stage Theatre Festival

Jasmyn Fyffe - Pulse at The 2015 Toronto Fringe Festival
Jasmyn Fyffe – Pulse at The 2015 Toronto Fringe Festival

The critically acclaimed show; Pulse, will make its highly anticipated Toronto premiere at the Next Stage Theatre Festival Wednesday, January 7, 2015 and will play until Sunday, January 18, 2015.

Choreographed by Toronto dance artist Jasmyn Fyffe it started as a commission for Dance Ontario’s Dance Weekend in 2012; the show has since gone on to win over audiences and critics. With high-energy contemporary dance sequences and a soulful soundtrack, Pulse has audiences dancing in their seats and humming the tunes long after the show. Also highly praised by critics, winning the Frankie Bouge d’Ici award for outstanding choreography at the 2013 Montreal Fringe Festival, theatregoers are anticipating its nine-day Toronto run.

Inspired by and dedicated to her parents, Pulse showcases Fyffe’s love for 60’s and 70’s soul music, and her unique contemporary dance style. “I grew up listening to and watching my parents dance to Motown artists like Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye and James Brown. It was a positive and inspiring experience for me,” says choreographer Jasmyn Fyffe. “They truly influenced this show and my career as an artist, bringing me to museums, theatres, and galleries. That is why Pulse is dedicated to them, because I would not be the artist I am without them. They’ve not only influenced my career but the way I encourage my son’s creative spirit like they did mine.”

Pulse will be the only dance show in this years’ Next Stage Theatre Festival (NSTF), and is only the third dance show to ever play in the festival. Presented by the Toronto Fringe, NSTF has become Toronto’s foremost winter theatre event showcasing the best in Canadian indie theatre. This year’s festival will feature 10 shows over 12 days. “Pulse has been performed in Montreal, Brooklyn, and even North Bay, but having it produced in my hometown for the first time is a thrilling experience. The show has grown so much since its first performance and I’m happy to be sharing it with my family and friends for the first time”, says Fyffe. The show will feature a stellar cast of Toronto dancers including: Jonna Abrams, Bretonie Burchell, Irvin Chow, Julia Cosentino, Roney Lewis, Alyssa Petrolo, Steven Smith, Jessica Tomasone and choreographer Jasmyn Fyffe.

During our conversation, Jasmyn talked about:

– What is Pulse all about and the story behind it
– Why is Pulse special to her
– Why did she premiere the show outside of Toronto first
– What makes her dancers special
– What she wants the audience to feel when they are watching the show

Good Life Show – Friday, January 9, 2015 – Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Wit. Flow. Drive. These are the monikers that describe Hip-Hop soul artist, Promise. He seamlessly blends conceptual songwriting and potent lyrical content with a focus on life, love & the consciousness of mankind.

Deemed a hip-hop sensation, Promise has the proven ability to take any person beyond the shallow surface of life. As Peace Magazine duly noted: “Promise has a rhyme style reminiscent of Rakim.” His approach to Hip-Hop is old school with new school delivery. “I’m impressed; they compare me to Nas, Common, Kanye West,” he shares. Promise comes with lyrical proficiency, and moving reality based content. Inevitably, Promise is well on his way to becoming one of the most distinguished artists of his time.

Promise will be live on our show tonight at 7 p.m. Eastern/4 p.m. Pacific. He will talking about the Good Life Show on Friday, January 9, 2015 at Canada Christian College, 50 Gervais Drive, Toronto, Ontario.

The Dr. Vibe Show™: Kimberley Motley “How I Defend The Rule Of Law”

0

Sharing cases from her international legal practice, Kimberley Motley, an American litigator practicing in Afghanistan, shows how a country’s own laws can bring both justice and “justness.”

Kimberley Motley practices in the U.S., Afghanistan, Dubai and the International Criminal Courts. After spending five years as a public defender in her native Milwaukee, Motley headed to Afghanistan to join a legal education program run by the U.S. State Department. She noticed Westerners stranded in Afghan prisons without representation, and started defending them. Today, Motley is the only Western litigator in Kabul, and one of the most effective defense attorneys in Afghanistan. Her practice, which reports a 90 percent success rate, often represents non-Afghan defendants as well as pro-bono human rights cases.
