The Dr. Vibe Show: AINSWORTH MORGAN – HIS STORY

Ainsworth Morgan and His Family

Ainsworth Morgan obtained his B.Sc. (Bachelor of Science) in Criminology from the University of Toledo and received his B.Ed. (Bachelor of Education) and M.Ed. (Master of Education) from the Ontario Institute for Studies In Education (OISE).

For the past nine years Ainsworth has worked for the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) as a Grade 7/8 teacher at Nelson Mandela Park Public School.

He is currently on secondment from the TDSB, working as the Co-ordinator of tutoring for the Pathways to Education Program-Regent Park. Pathways is a charitable organization created to reduce poverty and increase access to post-secondary education among disadvantaged youth in Canada.

In this episode, Mr. Morgan shares his story growing up from being born in Jamaica, growing up in the Regent Park area in Toronto and the importace of giving back, going to university in the United States, the impact of the book “The Autobiography of Malcolm X” had on his life, Black Canadian men’s definiton of “Blackness” versus Black American men’s definiton of “Blackness”, playing football in the Canadian Football League and making sports work for him and the importance of education in his and others lives. A week ago, in What started as a large peaceful protest in downtown Toronto to rally against the G20 summit suddenly turned violent. Police cars were set ablaze, protesters hurled bricks and golf balls at windows and many Toronto venues were on lockdown.
