Forced into Silence (the documentary) is meant to take an in-depth look at the way we raise our boys. Furthermore, it is meant to take a good look at men as victims of rape and domestic violence and how they deal with these types of victimization by interviewing experts, law makers, as well as former victims themselves. Additionally, Ms. Pagán is going to interview several specialists in the area of raising boys. As well as taking a look at exactly what is society doing for men who are victims of rape and domestic violence .

The end goal of Forced into Silence is to shine a light on the face of victimization that people rarely consider: the face of a man.

During our conversation, La Shawn talked about:

– The values did her parents instilled in her
– Some of her journalistic highlights
– The story behind the “Forced into Silence” documentary including her first interview that she did for the documentary
– If it easy for her to get men to share about their experiences
– Some of the challenges she is experiencing with the documentary
– What are the men sharing with her
– Reaction by men and women to her project
– Her thoughts on how the justice system deals with men who are victims of domestic violence
– The reasons are the victims giving for not reporting being abused
– Why does the media avoid reporting on this subject
– Her thoughts on what can be done to address this issue

Janét Aizenstros is a globally recognized emotional intelligence expert, author, interviewer and entrepreneur. She’s been featured on numerous media outlets such as the HuffPost Live, Huffington Post, Shorty Awards, Google TV, and more. From 2012 to 2013, Janét authored seven books in genres ranging from children to self-awareness. Her writings have appeared in numerous anthologies globally whilst her poetry has been recognized by International Library of Poetry. She has been honored for many awards including the prestigious YMCA-YWCA Woman of Distinction Award for both 2013 and 2014. Currently, Janét is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Janét Aizenstros Omni Media (JAOM), a media platform dedicated to empowering women globally. JAOM offers services in publishing as well as brand and media design. Additionally, she shares her inspiration through Women’s Movement Radio Network and her upcoming Women’s Movement Television Network weekly, giving voice to provocative, compelling content for women about business, love and lifestyle. Janét is the mom of two bouncing little boys and is on the committee for the Inspiration Guelph community event with the Children’s Foundation.

The ROLE Call is a not for profit organization focused on promoting responsibility, opportunity, leadership, and education through workshops, mentoring, counseling and resources for fathers who desire to play a role in the lives of their children. The mission of The ROLE Call is to eradicate fatherlessness through training young men in what it means to be responsible men, fathers, and husbands; providing support to single mothers raising children without the presence of a father; and by reconnecting absentee fathers with their children. The ROLE Call passionately promotes answering the call to fatherhood by living and leaving a legacy.

Andre D. Harrison, a single father of three boys is the founder of The ROLE Call. Andre currently serves as a Family Worker and Fatherhood Specialist, a member of Staten Island Borough President James Oddo’s Advisory Council on Children and Families, a board member for non-profit organization Fathers Rock and founder and director of The ROLE Call. Andre is the author of From a Fatherless Father to His Sons.

Dr. Kwame M. Brown

Dr. Kwame M. Brown has spent his career not only working to understand the processes behind movement development, but also to improve infrastructure and programming in the service of development and autonomy for both kids and adolescents. He trained as a developmental neuroscientist (Ph.D., Georgetown University) and worked in spinal cord injury research for 7 years. He left biomedical and clinical research to apply his knowledge of neural development to the creation of innovative methods that promote Active Play, spawning The FUNction Method. Dr. Brown worked extensively in both management and consulting in the field of recreational programming/operations before coming back to his undergraduate alma mater (Hampton University) as a Psychology Professor. He has traveled throughout North American conducting interactive seminars and consulting with diverse entities such as UC Berkeley, George Mason University, Fairfax County Government, INOVA Health Systems, nature retreats, and various fitness/wellness facilities. Besides helping to guide young Psychology majors, he runs the membership site Our FUNction Community for teachers, parents, coaches, and fitness professionals. But his favorite job is being a loving father and husband.
