An individual who has clearly redefined “success” as an artist is African-Canadian Robert Small.

At the age of sixteen, Small had his artwork published in a city-wide newspaper. Ever since then, Small has developed his artwork and become the most popular Canadian artist of the past decade.

While others pondered how to garner interest in Black History Month, Small created that which would become an annual tradition being The Official Black History Month Poster in 1995.

This poster and Small’s regular exposure in the media would change how artists looked at their work and their ability to reach a broader market. Small was the first African-Canadian artist in history to appear on mainstream media outlets such as Muchmusic, TSN, CBC Radio. He has also been prominently featured in The Toronto Star an unprecedented four times. Small is also the first African-Canadian artist to appear on the front cover of local newspaper “24”.

Small is also solely responsible for the first defined national campaign for Black history Month when the Bank of Montreal posted a copy of his most recent poster LEGACY in all of their branches across Canada. Small is presently entering the nineteenth year of creating this annual poster series now called LEGACY.

Small’s 19th edition of LEGACY celebrates those who have fought valiantly for civil rights in Canadian history such as Dudley Laws, Sherona Hall, Burnley “Rocky” Jones, Nalda Callender and Afua Cooper. In celebration of the United Nation’s declaration of 2013-2023 as being the Decade for People of African Descent Small has released a poster called LEGACY: YEAR ONE that informs about how Africans resisted the slave trade.

Robert will be on our show live tonight at 9 p.m. Eastern/6 p.m. Pacific. He will be talking the 19th LEGACY poster and other subjects.

During our live interview, you have the opportunity to call in and share with us and ask questions via Skype. If you would like to do this, please call us at: doctorvibe42. If you get through, please be patient and we will get to your call as soon as possible.

The Ontario Black History Society Launches Black History Month with Annual Kick Off Brunch. The 2013 brunch also celebrates the Society’s 35th anniversary promoting African-Canadian culture in Ontario.

The Ontario Black History Society (OBHS) hosts its annual Kick Off Brunch on Sunday, January 27, 2013 to mark the start of Black History Month in Canada. This year’s event welcomes returning hosts, CBC’s Dwight Drummond and Anne-Marie Mediwake in addition to Senator Don Meredith, who will be the keynote speaker.

The afternoon of celebration features music by the Evolution of Jazz (EOJ)Ensemble, Dave McLaughlin and Dominique Grant, plus a spoken word performance by Anne-Marie Woods aka Amani. Individuals who have made a difference with their local and nationwide achievements will be honoured. This year also marks the 35th anniversary of the OBHS, inspiring the brunch’s theme, “Reflections”.

“The OBHS acknowledges the foundation set by our founders and our collective experience,” says OBHS President Rosemary Sadlier, looking back on the Society’s thirty-five year history.

The brunch will be the first of several opportunities this year to not only look back but also to look forward. Sadlier notes that 2013 is the beginning of the UN International Decade for People of African Descent, and reveals the future creation of a centre for African-Canadian history and heritage, providing youth ” a concrete way to learn about the contributions of the multicultural Black community.”

The Dr. Vibe Show: Lauren deLisa Coleman “CEO Lounge”

0

One of the people that we love, Socio-Economic Digitalist, Emerging/Mobile Tech Consultant, Lauren deLisa Coleman is offering a great opportunity to improve your public speaking. Check it out …

This series is designed for the CEO and future CEO who finally wants to take command of public speaking. Can you, should you improve your skills? The answer is a resounding yes. Trust me, most people on your team won’t tell you. The conference organizer won’t either. Yet boring, forgettable speeches and panels are rampant no matter which industry. Strong oratory skills and engagement are vital in today’s digital era when one is being quoted and followed in a flash, yet many execs and entrepreneurs simply do not have the time to take long courses or read hefty books to truly develop their personal best. Further, much of what is being taught does not take into account the convergence of public speaking and the digital era. So I am offering high-impact stand-alone instructional videos format, tips and coaching secrets to use to expand your personal brand and corporate message. You will learn how to format stronger speeches, utilize body movement effectively, overcome anxiety, apply vocal variation techniques to close pitches, persuade with power, better format the dreadful Powerpoint, speak in 140 soundbites and so much more. On-demand and on-point! This is a direct result of best practices I’ve found from formal training and research. I am a professional speaker, represented one of the top speaker’s bureaus in the country, Leading Authorities, and speak frequently on my book and findings as a digi-socio analyst and critic.

Become memorable.

Increase revenue through the power of your voice.

Get coaching for the digi-speak era.

Introductory offer: first TWO shorter classes for only $49 PLUS a free copy of my eBook “Rise of the SmartPower Class” (and Amazon Best: New Media Studies), then $97 per month thereafter.

To register, please go to CEO Lounge. When you are registering, if you mention “The Dr. Vibe Show”, Lauren will give you a discount!!
