Legalswipe is a mobile application for both the Apple and Android smart phones that gives you basic legal rights during interactions with police. In addition to your rights, it also allows for video recording with the ability to upload to a private Dropbox server and broadcast messaging to your emergency contacts. It was made to provide a degree of protection from police violence and help promote the importance of legal education.
Christien Levien is originally from Toronto, Ontario. After receiving his Honours B.A. from York University he went on pursue his Juris Doctor at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law.
Christien is passionate about human rights issues, community development and criminal rehabilitation. He has worked in several areas of government and with various NGOs developing programs and evaluating policy. Christien is completing his term as an articling student with the criminal law firm of Edward H. Royle and Associates and is also the founder of Legalswipe, an organization that educates the public on their legal rights. Christien uses his platform to address the shortcomings of the criminal justice system and promote social advocacy.
