The Dr. Vibe Show™: Roundtable With Black Toronto Youth

Black Youth In Toronto

On September 25, 2013, I had the opportunity and privilege to have a outstanding conversation with some Black youth in one of Toronto’s challenged neighbourhoods. Louis March of the Zero Gun Violence Movement, Youth and Potential Fathers and the African Canadian Heritage Association was also part of the conversation.

During our conversation, the young people discuss:

– What is their relationship with their parents and the challenges they have with their parents?
– What are some of the areas where they disconnect with their parents?
– What is family life like?
– What would they like to say to their parents?
– Youth and money
– Do they feel that Black are holding each other back from moving ahead?
– Do they have a dream job or dream business that they would like to own?
– What type a support do they need to achieve their dream?
– Is there a lack of mentorship for Black youth in Toronto?

I would like to thank these young people for being open and honest. We hope to have more discussions with them.
