Makini began her career in real estate at the age of 30. After 8 years of buying and selling homes as an investment, she realized her passion for excellence and extraordinary attention to detail could benefit others. As a single mother she strives to break stereotypes by leading and educating through example. Her children currently volunteer at the local YMCA and participate in fund raisers.

“Give thanks by giving” is a motto that motivates her to put her time and money into as many fundraisers as she can manage. Inspiring women to strive for goals and become valuable members in the community to improve the lives of themselves and others. She enjoys bringing awareness to local charities and fundraising events.

Makini has recently completed the SisterTalk Circle Leadership Program: a program designed for women leaders who would like to help other women live a more empowered & elevated life.

Jason Francis is a creative thinker, writer & blogger based out of New Rochelle, NY with a business and executive background in Management & Human Resources. He also specializes in Marketing and Promotions within the entertainment field.

In addition to the blogging, he is a member of the Omega Nexus Group. We are a creative Entertainment Company currently within the fictional genre. We have one book on the market Ascended: The Omega Nexus and are preparing the release of new projects.

Along with this, he is part of the overseeing team, The High Council, of the Nomadness Travel Tribe. The tribe is an 5000+ member strong travel network focused on sharing the value of travel with the Urban demographic and introducing travel to the upcoming youth. In the spring of 2013, we completed of first national tour traveling from NYC to LA visiting colleges to spread our message.

Jojoflores has come a long way from his humble Montreal roots. Today, House Music’s “Mixed Tape King” has achieved global reach, and is now a tireless Ambassador of soulful dance music to every corner of the world. In addition to being one of the genre’s most respected Dj’s; jojoflores is also CEO of Gotsoul Records and founder of the infamous Therapy soirees – now enjoyed in 7 cities worldwide from Cape Town to Miami, San Francisco and Toronto. Along the way, he’s found time to open up a club, own a record shop, and produce numerous records and CD’s.

Jojoflores’ reputation for rocking a dance floor has rewarded him with multiple residencies at famed clubs world wide, including New York City’s Cielo; Nikki Beach Miami; Deep in Los Angeles; Lotus in Hawaii; along with venues in Melbourne, Dubai, Brazil, Santorini & Athens. He was voted Pioneer Stylus Awards 2010 & 2011 House DJ of The Year, KA Magazine 2010 Best DJ of Canada & Best International DJ 4 years running by NYC’s Undaground Archives. On Thursday, May 15, Literature for Life will be hosting its second annual Read & Believe fundraising event in support of their Women with Words Reading Circles program. The event, held at Product Nightclub in Toronto will feature performances by Montreal’s internationally acclaimed DJ Jojoflores and Vancouver born 2013 Juno & 2014 Radio Music Awards double nominee Vita Chambers.

Tickets for Read & Believe can be purchased online at literatureforlife.org/support/events until Tuesday, May 13 or for $40 upon entry on Thursday, May 15. The event kicks-off at 8:00 p.m. with a silent auction, and entertainment hits the stage at 10:00 p.m.

People can also support Literature for Life and their programming initiatives through donations, volunteering, or organizing their own event to help raise proceeds. Silent auction donations for Read & Believe are currently being accepted.

Literature for Life is committed to helping marginalized young moms develop a practice of reading in order to access opportunities and achieve economic stability. Through Women with Words, our weekly Reading Circle program, young moms meet with trained facilitators to read books that are relevant to their lives and engage in highly interactive discussions and writing tasks. As a result, young moms gain a renewed interest in reading and learning that is passed on to their children. To date, more than 2,200 moms have participated in our Reading Circles and more than 20,000 books have been distributed. She joined the #BringBackOurGirls protests in Lagos after it became apparent the Nigerian government had little intention of doing anything to find the missing Chibok girls.

Ron Waksman is the Senior Director, Online and Current Affairs for Global News.

Ron has executive oversight of the project to reinvent Globalnews.ca in order to create the ultimate mobile news experience on any device. In his current role, Ron oversees Global News’ Digital First initiative, evolving legacy broadcast newsrooms into 24 – hour digital news platforms.

Ron is a senior advisor for all Global News operations and strategic planning, and the executive-in-charge of Global News’ Gemini and RTDNA award
– winning investigative program, 16X9.

Waksman is responsible for the network’s journalistic principles and practices, which includes editorial standards, professional conduct and ethics. He was the Executive Editor of the second edition of Global News Journalistic Principles and Practices, published in January, 2012. The second edition was updated specifically to include new areas of journalistic practice such as online newsgathering, as well as guidelines around copyright and fair dealing.

Ron has a 21-year track record of executive editorial, broadcast, production and online news management. He is a multiple RTDNA, Edward R. Murrow and Gemini award winner. He played a key role in the growth of Global News, joining Global Ontario as a writer in 1989. Ron was appointed Executive Producer of National News in 1996, then in 2005 he was named News Director at Global Toronto.

Jeneba Ghatt refers to herself as a social media butterfly and a momtechpreneur.

She has founded and cofounded over a dozen businesses, startups, websites, blogs and nonprofits in the past in the service and digital online markets. She has also worn several hats in recent years: a blogger, columnist, publisher, adjunct instructor, political analyst and a managing law partner at her own boutique firm representing nonprofits, small businesses & individuals before administrative agencies, courts and the US Supreme Court. She is a Beltway insider who has reported news from the inside of the White House, Congress and court houses, and frequently attends media gathers and other summits at the White House. She is a frequent guest on various shows on the SiriusXM POTUS (Politics of the United States) channel.

As the managing law partner at her own boutique firm, Ghatt Law Group, Ms. Ghatt represents nonprofits, small businesses & individuals and has won landmark communications law cases before the Federal Communications Commission and represented small business and national civil rights organizations before the federal courts and the United States Supreme Court.
