The Dr. Vibe Show WITH BRANDON HAY OF THE BLACK DADDIES CLUB

0

Brandon Hay

Originally broadcast on November 22, 2009 …

We have been trying to interview Brandon Hay, the Executive Director of The Black Daddies Club, for a long time.

The Black Daddies Club (BDC) was founded in 2007 by Brandon Hay in response to the lack of forums and spaces for Black men to discuss parenting issues as well as the issues facing the Black Community as a whole. The main goal is to change the image of the black father in the media, from a neglectful figure to a responsible, involved and loving role model.

The BDC’s mandate/guiding principles are:

1. Develop a continuous support system for Black fathers to share their challenges and or experiences

2. Host events featuring various speakers both high-profile and “everyday” people who can inspire and encourage positive practices for Black fathers and community members generally

3. Work with the media to provide alternate images of Black fathers

We had the opportunity to speak with and to share with Brandon. He about how the history of the BDC, challenges that Black fathers face and about their upcoming event, “MONOGAMY…IT IS RELEVANT?” which is being held on Saturday, November 229, 2009 at The Strictly Roots Hair Salon at 154 Bathurst Street in Toronto, Ontario. The event starts promptly at 10 p.m. You can find out more information about this event and the BDC at their website, http://blackdaddiesclub.com/ .
