Today is the start of the 36th Annual National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) starts in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. We will be attending the convention and hope to get some interviews!!

There are many words that could be used to describe Sean Jones. Singer, song writer, actor, model, honest and genuine are just a few. However, the character trait that best defines this young man is his passion. Yes, the music has truly stirred his soul.

In the first of two parts, we talk and share with Sean Jones about being born in Hamilton, Ontario, going to Saudi Arabia at 5 1/2 years old and spending five years there, buying his first album (it was by the rock group Whitesnake), his first audition in his Grade Nine class to becoming a member of the R&B group “Essence” in 2004 and winning a Juno Award in 2004.

Single Black Female

In this episode, we talk and share with Janel C. Scarborough (co-star and co-producer) and Roger Dundas (co-producer) of the play, “Single Black Female” which is in Toronto from March 13 – March 21 at the Toronto Centre For The Arts: George Weston Recital Hall (5040 Yonge Street at Sheppard, www.tocentre.com). Enjoy!!

“Single Black Female” is a two woman show with rapid fire comic vignettes that explore the lives of of these hip ladies as they search for love, clothes, and dignity. The pIay is directed by Martin Damien Wilkins and stars Candice McKoy as SBF1 (Single Black Female 1) and Janel C. Scarborough as SBF2 (Single Black Female 2).

The last three Toronto performances are on Friday March 19th at 8 p.m., Saturday March 20th at 5 p.m and Sunday March 21st at 5 p.m.

The ticket prices are $30 in advance, $40 the day of the show and there is a $5 off the ticket price for students and seniors. Part of the proceeds are donated to various women’s charitable organizations.

National Society of Black Engineers

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is coming to Toronto coming to Toronto for its annual convention from March 31st to April 4th, 2010.

It is one of the largest student-run organizations in the US, centered on improving the recruitment and retention of Black engineering & science students. It diligently follows its mission to “increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community”.

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is an organization of over 30,000 members spans all ages with 3 core targets groups: Pre-College Initiative (from grades K-12), Collegiate (college & university students), and Technical & Professional (Alumni & Industry Colleagues). The convention themed “Engineering a Global Impact” will be the largest black professional event ever held in Canada, with mini-conferences focusing content to each of the 3 core groups, a 300+ company career fair, many networking and tour opportunities.
